QUESTIONS FOR A FALL TREE “The trees are about to let go of everything they worked all year to grow. Call it loss, call it trust.”

Do you miss your leaves? Do you wish you held onto them when the coldest night of the year comes around? Do you wonder about the stumps? Are you scared of swaying in the wind when it is just your bare trunk bending to the roof? Do you worry what the birds will think? Do you get scared when a piece of bark falls, as if you were being stripped all over again? Do you miss the sound of the wind because you can't recognice it anymore? Do you feel over the knots left by their stems upon falling? Do you agonice over the progressive color change? Do you pretend not to notice to save their feelings? Do you wish to tell them? Do you think they see? Do you get to keep a special leaf through the winter? No. Do you know they will grow again? Do you know they will never grow back?
